Ever own a plant that you were given and not water on a regular basis? It slowly but surely begins to wither. When you begin watering it though - it begins to perk up, get green and fill out and look happy! Health is a something that you were given as well and whether you give or take from it, will show on how it gives back to you. You are worth giving to and the time, resources and effort, you're worth too! You're a good person, you contribute to people, things and places in your life, and giving to yourself through education in fitness, motivation and accountability are incredibly helpful tools that a Fitness Coaching provides you, for you to own and use for the rest of your life.

I appreciate when I see a client smile based on the work and Faith that I ask them to have in themselves, through the vehicle of strength training and flexibility training, two of which make you a better version of yourself in health, and in wellness.

If there's one thing to remember, the body is a temple, not a warehouse. I trust in the Hope of things I cannot see, then the belief can come true.

Be well, live life with a warm love of the hope of the future and use weights to strengthen that journey along the way, you'll be glad you did.

Thank you, Coach Dan : if you ever need help in fitness, let me know, be great to help you. 503.332.0026 or dan@fitnessintraining.com

Yo Fitness Fans, yo...

So you want to get fit I understand, well do ya - mmm? In order to do this, simply apply one ounce of invention, and two ounces of effort, and three ounces of movement and bam, you will be fit!

After 30+ years of pumping Iron, I have discovered one simple fact...you can, you must and you will.

I don't have all the answers, but I do possess many questions. What is it and why is it that you want to be well? Are you afraid of your own future, so you easily forget how to care for the very body God gave you? Assuming you can simply be excempt from ill health? I don't think so...

Choose to be kind to your temple and it will reward you - even if illness has stricken you. The mind and heart are a very powerful team which can heal by the sheer will of it all. So, act upon the grace and goodness that you have within your grasp and get and stay well.

Thank you, Dan Hoering

Be Tenacious not aggressive in the game of life! Crocs or Goats?

The word aggressive comes to mind when you go after something! But is it really the right way to go about it? Let's take a looksee!?

Aggressive is: [obtrusively energetic especially in pursuing particular goals with a forwardness or brash self-confidence or assertive; pushy, characterized by or tending toward unprovoked offensives Origin: 1815–25; Aggressive+ -ive, noun]

Tenacious is: [dogged persistence in maintaining, holding fast; characterized by keeping a firm hold, holding together; cohesive; not easily pulled asunder; to endure or seeking something valued or desired, Origin: 1526, from M.Fr. ténacité (14c.), from Latin, tenacitas "the act of holding fast," from tenax (gen. tenacis) "tough, holding fast," from tenere "to hold" (see tenet). Tenacious first attested 1607, te·na·cious·ly, adverb
te·na·cious·ness, noun]

When I read those two definitions, I feel quite different as they relate to everyday life and people. Aggressive is too much, short winded and there's a real sense of no follow through or keep on keep'n on to it which cannot be sustained or can't last or endure. On the other hand Tenacity is quite different. It denotes a stick to it approach with an ongoing lazer like focus that never fades, never stops and a hope that is good, real and sound! Recently these words came to light as they relate to my life, my fitness and the people in my life. Discover what it means to get and be fit and the usage of tenacity versus aggression, as both play a role in fitness and life success. I admire people that go for it! But how do they do that? Aggressively or with tenacity? Aggression isn't without merit, it is needed, it would just be the ignition switch to tenacity. Once tenacity is ignited via the aggressive spark, there's a continual ongoing focus that is not subject to any element of being doused or put out. It is a fire that glows red hot and cannot be extinguished by any thing or anyone. It does not relent or give up, it cannot be put down or put away. It would analogous to the core of the Earth, a molten red hot glow that burns whether you see it coming out of a volcano or knowingly realize it is deep below right where you stand or sit as you read this.

Tenacity as an animal would be a heartily horned Mountain Goat. A Mountain Goat that skitters along, heavy hoofing its way along a steep pitch on a mountain cliff, teetering at the edge of a fatal fall on those steep cliffs. Yet that strong, hearty persistent Moutain Goat will not let go of the moutain as if affixed like some unseen super-glue that oozes from its pores to keep its hooves grounded on the mountain. The Mountain Goat not only survives but strives and lives in an environment that most animals would fall as a death drop! The Mountain Goat survives, strives and flourishes in this harsh unforbidding place on that steep mountain side. The Mountain Goat is high atop the mountain where the sun shines, the air is clear and the brightness of the Earth can be seen for miles and miles, a good place to have a great vantage point to see and do everything. A Brilliant Existence!

The Crocodile however would be a very aggressive animal! It waits and doesn't work to survive like a Mountain Goat must do. The Crocodile is an opportunistic creature, conserving energy and food as it is a huge lumbering animal compared to a Mountain Goat. The Croc waits and lashes out at its prey when an unsuspecting bird or or varment creeps too close to the waters edge...and the Croc strikes in a massive burst, all at once! It has one good chance to get the kill, and all of its energy is used up in one huge wave at its victim. The odds are low that the Croc will get the kill. The Croc loses often times and recedes back into the cold murky blur of water that it calls home. It waits again, without much toil or spin...just waits and waits for another kill; a loner it is. Although a survivor the Croc for millions of years, exists alone, abandon by all and hides in the water away from life and the living, as if dead. A Dark and dim existence.

So be a powerful Mountain Goat, live your life with a seething boldness and learn to use your hooves and hold on tight, adapt, learn, persist, strive and skitter along lifes pathways that are often steep or forbidding! Though every now and then you'll find a plateau to take safe haven on and rest and recoup. Then onward and upward again you go, into the battles of life but with a secret weapon, Tanacity! Tenacity wins! Tenacity is at the very root of what it takes to succeed in life and in fitness! Tenacity is more than endurance, it is endurance combined with the absolute certainly that what we are looking for is going to transpire. Oswald Chambers.

Thank you, Coach Dan

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://fitnessintraining.blogspot.com/2008/05/be-tenacious-not-aggressive-in-game-of.html' title='Be Tenacious not aggressive in the game of life! A library is a quiet, soft and gentle place that smells of old books, replete of tables and people studiously gaining more and more knowledge to better themselves, a noble effort. Sometimes these diligent readers wistfully woof down packages, crinkling them quietly - of chocolate covered cookies, small donuts and curly shaped sweets of red, green and blue. Occasionally a reader will select a hidden corner and have a Bonbon and a small container of milk. All the while, looking very serious, as if eating and reading are arch-enemies, a no-no in a library for heavens sake. What would the Librarian say?

I've also noticed both passively and actively that the gym environment has become soft, quiet and folks mildly going through the motions if you will, but not getting much from their efforts, a travesty I feel. There's more dialog and jaw muscles working than pecs, delts and most importantly the abdominal and oblique muscles! Ladies and gentlemen, getting fit makes good sense!

Isn't the gym environment supposed to be a place of getting fit and staying there? Certainly it is; of course working out within your fitness limits, safely and with purpose, along with a good work ethic. Call me old fashion, keeping it real as Randy would say on AI or John Madden putting it like it is when he calls the play-by-play on Monday night football? What happened to the passion and intensity that made gyms, gyms? What would the Fitness Coach say?

I'm not saying that the gym environment should be like a dungeon, no...but unbeknownced to the workout person, regular or just starting...working out requires a solid blue print of plans, structured background review of injuries and objectives and goals, then a lively, fun, safe and effective workout that gets...results! Are not results what folks go to the gym to get? Lose the body fat, tone up and harden muscles, get internally fit [decreasing blood pressure, lower cholesterol levels, stave off the threat of diabetes, obesity, stroke, heart disease, lower stress and feel better?] Why yes in deed! That's why I say the gym environment could use a massive boost of energy, a lively good push and some old fashion hard earned work? Eh? Yeah! Along with some rock & roll music sounding in the background, versus elevator music lulling us all asleep! Studies show that lively exciting music triggers brain chemicals to release causing physiological changes in the brain and body, enhancing the experience of a workout!

What's next, dessert trays carried around by the front desk staff and soft confections for those reading the paper whilst sitting on the leg machine and small steaming cups of cappuccino with glimmering trays made of fake silver with embroidered gym napkins? If that happens, I'm moving to the mountains to build my own gym in a cave made of rock and iron wrought from the ground with my bare hands! I'm joking, I hope!

Come on man - come on....let's get back to the basics like working out hard! Or ever wonder why when the sun appears, even in January or February, it's an invitation for folks to have a new convenient reason to not make their normal showing at the gym to workout? I've always pondered this, the sun and working out, that is? What...does the sun invoke magic muscles and mysterious cardiovascular fitness in its rays of light, via just standing outside and being under the power of the star that warms our planet? Sure sounds good eh? Not. Yes, I think there's a DNA that sparks to life, communicating to all that when the sun appears, they can blow off their workout? Think about it, I sure have and the same folks that don't show up when the sun shines, [saying they're more active when there's more sun]. Click on the sun image to find out about our life giving star...

The folks that use the gym...

have the same jobs that start at 8 and end at 5.

have the same wife or husband, same kids.

have the same chores, same car, same house, [how did they get here?]...as the days go by...

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5030375366010666658" style="WIDTH: 143px;
